The Truth About Mineral Oil

Mineral Oil, hmmm.  It sounds healthy, right? I mean minerals are good, right?  Anything with with mineral oil has to be good for you...WRONG!  Let's talk about it.

The Source
Mineral oil comes from crude oil (i.e., gasoline).  It is merely the liquid form of petroleum jelly.  As you know, petroleum jelly acts as an additional layer of skin when applied; preventing external substances (including Vitamin D from the sun) from being absorbed.

I have read a number of things about mineral oil, but the mere fact that it comes from gasoline let's me know that I should not be absorbing that into my system.  Isn't it poisonous to consume gasoline?  The skin is the second fastest method of absorption - next to an IV.

Rumor or Fact?
Mineral oil is rumored to be carcinogenic (cancer-causing).  Let's think about this.  If the mineral oil acts as a second layer of skin preventing substances from being absorbed then it is also preventing substances from being released.  One of the functions of our skin is to release the body's toxins. When this second layer of skin is applied, that function is temporarily disabled/hindered.  Do you think mineral oil is a carcinogen?

There is a such thing as cosmetic-grade mineral oil, but it is still derived from crude oil yet claims not to clog the pores.  Does that change your mind?

Why?
Remember, the standards of our cosmetic products are controlled by the cosmetic manufacturers - not the FDA or some other government entity.  Mineral oil is cheap - enough said.
